Project Overview

Rosewood Hotel Georgia is a landmark luxury hotel at 801 West Georgia Street in downtown Vancouver. Originally opened in 1927, the property was fully restored and reopened under Rosewood in 2011. Rosewood identifies the hotel as a 156-room historic property combining original character with contemporary luxury.

Radiance Energy was selected to upgrade lighting throughout the hotel, including guest suites, corridors, dining and entertainment spaces, banquet areas, spa and pool areas, valet zones, exterior spaces, and back-of-house rooms.

The Challenge

For a luxury hotel, lighting performance affects much more than energy consumption. The property needed to improve guest experience and aesthetics while reducing operating costs across a wide range of spaces with different functional and visual requirements.

The retrofit also had to be executed without disrupting hotel operations. Guest suites, lobbies, dining areas, entertainment spaces, and service areas all required careful sequencing and installation planning.

The Solution

Radiance Energy delivered a comprehensive LED retrofit across the property, upgrading lighting in guest rooms, common areas, hospitality spaces, exterior areas, and building-service environments.

To protect the guest experience, work was scheduled during low-impact periods. Guest-suite retrofits were coordinated alongside housekeeping activities, while lobby work was completed overnight and during early-morning hours.

The upgrade reduced total lighting consumption from 1,200,742 kWh to 263,519 kWh, while also improving lighting quality and aesthetics throughout the hotel.

Project Results

  • 82% savings in energy costs
  • 78% reduction in lighting energy use
  • Lighting consumption reduced from 1,200,742 kWh to 263,519 kWh
  • More than $1.3 million in projected 10-year savings
  • Improved lighting aesthetics and guest environment

Efficiency Without Compromising the Guest Experience

Hospitality lighting upgrades must balance efficiency with atmosphere. In a luxury hotel, simply reducing wattage is not enough—the lighting must continue to support the character of guest rooms, restaurants, event spaces, lounges, and public areas.

At Rosewood Hotel Georgia, Radiance combined energy reduction with careful installation scheduling and aesthetic considerations, allowing the hotel to improve operating performance without compromising the guest experience.

This is especially relevant given the property’s positioning as a high-end historic hotel; Rosewood describes it as a restored 1927 landmark in the heart of Vancouver.
