Port Moody, BCProject Overview
Pacific Coast Terminals is a major bulk export terminal in Port Moody, BC, connecting Western Canadian commodities to international markets through deep-water marine, rail, and storage infrastructure.
In 2018, Radiance Energy conducted a detailed energy audit and developed an LED lighting retrofit tailored to the terminal’s demanding industrial operating environment. The project focused on reducing electricity consumption and maintenance requirements while improving lighting quality and workplace visibility.
The Challenge
The existing lighting system was outdated, consumed excessive energy, and required frequent maintenance.
In a large industrial terminal environment, poor lighting performance and recurring fixture maintenance contributed to higher operating costs and operational inefficiencies. Pacific Coast Terminals needed a more reliable and energy-efficient lighting solution capable of supporting day-to-day terminal operations.
The Solution
Radiance Energy replaced traditional lighting with high-efficiency LED technology selected for the facility’s industrial requirements.
The upgrade significantly reduced energy use while creating brighter and more consistent illumination across the terminal. Radiance also structured the project through a zero-upfront-cost program, allowing Pacific Coast Terminals to begin realizing savings without an initial capital investment.
A seven-year service program covering maintenance and diagnostics supported the system’s long-term reliability.
Project Results
- 81% reduction in energy costs
- 74,000 kWh annual energy savings
- Average monthly savings of $1,853
- $74,000 cumulative savings over 7 years
- Zero-upfront-cost project implementation
- Seven-year service, maintenance, and diagnostics program
- Improved lighting quality and workplace visibility
- Reduced ongoing maintenance requirements
Reliable Lighting for a Major Bulk Terminal
Industrial terminals require lighting that can perform reliably around heavy equipment, rail infrastructure, storage areas, marine operations, and continuously active work zones.
At Pacific Coast Terminals, the retrofit combined lower energy consumption with improved lighting quality and reduced maintenance demands. The result was a more dependable lighting system aligned with the operational requirements of a large-scale bulk handling facility.
