Project Overview

Jericho Tennis Club is a private waterfront racquets and recreation club in Vancouver with a history dating back more than a century. Its facilities include tennis, squash, fitness, aquatics, dining, and social spaces, including four international-size singles squash courts.

Radiance Energy was selected to modernize the lighting in the squash courts with a high-efficiency LED solution designed to improve the playing environment while reducing electricity consumption and maintenance requirements.

The Challenge

The existing T8 fluorescent lighting consumed excessive energy and required frequent lamp replacement.
Lighting quality also needed improvement to provide better visibility across the courts and create a more consistent playing experience for members.

The Solution

Radiance Energy replaced the existing 32W T8 fluorescent lamps with high-efficiency 18W LED T8 lamps.

The retrofit also included dimming controls to provide adjustable lighting levels and ballast removal to reduce future maintenance requirements. The new lighting system was backed by a 10-year warranty for long-term reliability.

Project Results

  • 53.49% reduction in energy consumption
  • $26,447 projected savings over 10 years
  • 5.41-year payback period
  • Brighter, more uniform court illumination
  • Dimming controls for adjustable lighting levels
  • Reduced maintenance through ballast removal

Lighting That Supports the Member Experience

Squash requires fast visual tracking in an enclosed court environment, making consistent and uniform lighting especially important.
At Jericho Tennis Club, the LED retrofit improved court visibility while lowering energy consumption and maintenance requirements. The result was a more efficient lighting system better suited to the visual demands of competitive and recreational squash.
