Project Overview

Canlan Oakville is a multi-rink ice sports facility serving recreational and competitive users in Oakville, Ontario. Canlan’s current facility information identifies the Oakville location as a four-rink complex, making lighting performance a major operating consideration across the building.

Radiance Energy completed an LED retrofit at the facility to improve lighting quality while substantially reducing electricity consumption and operating costs.

The Challenge

Electricity was one of Canlan’s largest operating expenses after labour, while outdated lighting contributed to poor lighting quality across its facilities.
At the Oakville arena, the existing fluorescent system required modernization to improve visibility, lower energy costs, and create a better environment for athletes and spectators.

The Solution

Radiance Energy replaced the arena’s outdated fluorescent lighting with high-efficiency LED fixtures designed for the demands of an ice sports environment.

The new lighting delivered stronger light output while significantly reducing electricity consumption and operating costs throughout the facility.

Project Results

  • 80% energy savings
  • $46,000 in annual electricity cost savings
  • Increased light output
  • Improved lighting quality across arena spaces
  • Recognized with Oakville Hydro’s Conservation Leadership Award

Better Lighting for Ice Sports

Ice arenas require high-quality lighting across large playing surfaces while operating for long hours throughout the year.
At Canlan Oakville, the LED retrofit improved illumination across the arena while significantly lowering electricity consumption. The result was a more efficient lighting system better suited to the demands of a busy multi-rink sports facility.
