71% Reduction in Energy Costs
Location:
Seattle, WA
Project Overview
McKinstry operates a large manufacturing facility in Seattle supporting metal fabrication, prefabrication, piping, plumbing, and modular production.
Radiance Energy, in collaboration with Seattle Energy Group, delivered a comprehensive lighting retrofit across the facility. The project focused on improving energy efficiency, workplace lighting conditions, and long-term operating performance while maximizing available support through the Seattle City Light rebate program.
The Challenge
The facility’s existing lighting system was outdated and energy intensive, resulting in high operating costs and inadequate lighting conditions for industrial work.
The project required a modern lighting solution capable of improving visibility across a large fabrication environment while significantly reducing energy consumption and maintenance demands.
The Solution
Radiance Energy and Seattle Energy Group replaced the existing high-wattage fixtures with 190 high-efficiency LED high-bay fixtures designed for the facility’s industrial operating environment.
The retrofit reduced fixture power from approximately 720W to 160W, substantially lowering energy use while improving illumination throughout the manufacturing space.
The project also secured significant support through the Seattle City Light rebate program, reducing the client’s upfront investment and improving overall project economics.
Project Results

High-Performance Lighting for Heavy Manufacturing
Large fabrication facilities require lighting that performs reliably across high ceilings, large floor areas, and demanding production environments.
At McKinstry, the retrofit significantly reduced fixture wattage while improving the quality and consistency of illumination across the manufacturing floor. Combined with a substantial utility rebate, the project delivered both immediate operational improvements and strong long-term financial performance.
