Project Overview
The PNE Livestock Barn is a large multi-use facility at Hastings Park in Vancouver, supporting agricultural exhibits, animal housing, events, performances, and other seasonal uses. The building provides more than 100,000 sq. ft. of flexible space and includes extensive stable and pen areas.
Radiance Energy was selected to modernize lighting across the facility, including barn areas, exterior lighting, and other operating zones, with a focus on improving visibility, reducing energy use, and creating a more reliable lighting environment.
The Challenge
The facility included 22 areas with dim and uneven lighting, including barn and exterior spaces that operate for long hours.
The existing fluorescent lighting created high energy and maintenance costs while providing poor visibility for workers and visitors. Lighting quality was also an important consideration in spaces used to house animals for extended periods.
The Solution
Radiance Energy implemented a high-efficiency, flicker-free LED lighting system with sensors and controls tailored to the different operating needs of the livestock facility.
The system incorporated circadian-style lighting strategies designed to better mimic natural daylight cycles, while controls and sensors helped optimize energy use throughout the building.

Lighting Designed for a Unique Facility
Livestock facilities have different lighting requirements than conventional commercial or sports buildings. Long operating hours, large barn spaces, animal housing, public access, and varied event use all place different demands on the lighting system.
At the PNE Livestock Barn, Radiance combined high-efficiency LED fixtures with controls and more natural lighting patterns to create a system that supported visibility, operations, and energy performance across the facility.
